Writing Workshop with Katherine Brabon & Jude Aquilina Katherine Brabon, winner of the 2016 Vogel prize for her novel The Memory Artist held a workshop to teach participants how to use memory to develop stories and poems inspired by memory, She provided examples from her own experience in writing her novel and the influence of memory on her new work.
The workshop also included a presentation and exercises designed and led by local author, teacher and mentor Jude Aquilina. Kate was interviewed and videoed by Richard Kleine about her writing, the influences on her writing and her experiences from academic study including Russian history and language and her subsequent travels and interviews with dissidents who used memory to preserve the records of events.
Author talks were presented on radio and made available as podcasts.
Book signing and author talk South Seas Bookshop in Port Elliot hosted Kate Brabon and she provided an author talk and book signing which was available to the general public.
Launch of Speak Out Volume 5 Katherine Brabon launched volume 5 of Speak Out, the anthology of writings including prose. poetry and short stories produced by aspiring and established writers from across the Fleurieu Peninsula including Goolwa, Middleton, Langhorne Creek, Victor Harbor and Milang.
Over 50 participants enjoyed the selected readings and Kate's talk about the important role of writing and reading in life, healthy communities and life long learning
