2019 Young People’s Writing Competition
Schools and young people are encouraged to enter the competition. Please read the entry form carefully.
This is the 7th year of the competition which culminates in a celebration of literacy at Langhorne Creek in September.
The celebration will feature local, successful publishers of children’s literature who will conduct workshops and talk to the young aspiring authors about the craft of writing, illustrating and being published.
The theme this year is Bees. This could be approached from many angles, incorporating the Australian curriculum requirements of Science, HASS etc. of your school. The work can be in any form eg. narrative (prose), diary (recount), report, exposition or description. The number of words is a guideline and shorter pieces of work are acceptable but the upper limit must not be exceeded.
Entries will be judged on originality, appeal to an audience, sentence structure, correct grammar, accurate spelling and correct use of punctuation.
The five young writer's categories are:
ENTRIES OPEN April 8, 2019 and CLOSE August 23, 2019. No late entries accepted. The competition is free to enter.
Schools are to post entries to: LCWF Competition, PO Box 78, Langhorne Creek, SA 5255.
Prizes: The Winner in each OPEN category will receive an individual cash prize and a parcel of books for their school library. The Winner each BALLAD category will receive only a cash prize. Winners ONLY will be notified. Prizes will be presented to winners at a special event at the Langhorne Creek Campus of Eastern Fleurieu School on Thursday, September 26, 2019.
