THIN AIR – Arts and Words
Brilliant launch of Thin Air was held at Signal Point on Sunday 25 November 2018.
The art displays and writing have come together well in a memorable publication. Over 200 people attended and nearly 120 volumes sold. Guests included Mayor Keith Parkes and local MP David Basham. The THIN AIR project was a collaboration between the Sand Writers and Art@Goolwa. Sand Writers members wrote about artworks by local artists or in local exhibitions. With the melding of the visual and the written word we aimed to cross-pollinate arts, resulting in a published anthology that reflects the Fleurieu’s moods and creative minds. Colour photographs of the artworks or artists are accompanied by short poems or prose pieces.
Project Background The Art of Words project envisaged Art@Goolwa and Sand Writers collaborating by bringing poems and prose together with visual art works together in an elegant publication celebrating the Fleurieu Peninsula. The project culminated in significant multi-art medium launch at Signal Point showcasing some of the creativity of the Fleurieu as inspired by the natural environment and community spirit of the region. Art@Goolwa was a collaborative venture between artists active in painting, photography, sculpture and other forms of creative expression with a successful record of exhibitions and sales. Members include, for example, Cathy Portas, Dana Fatchen, Ann Angel and James Stewart. From the literary side, Sand Writers includes many published and active writers who were mentored and guided by Jude Aquilina, an established writer and experienced teacher and editor in the selection of works to pair with the visual arts. |
